Governments in line to get energy efficiency grant
New York State's 54 largest cities, counties and towns--including eight in Western New York--are in line for federal energy efficiency grants, Gov. David A. Paterson announced Tuesday. The funding, provided through the federal economic stimulus bill and the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant program, will help the municipalities reduce energy costs, create clean energy jobs, protect the environment and reduce carbon footprints. Eligible for grants are: Amherst, $1,052,700; Buffalo, $2,736,900; Cheektowaga, $718,800; Hamburg, $187,300; Niagara Falls, $498,500; Town of Tonawanda, $544,700; West Seneca, $181,100; and Erie County, $2,903,000.
